Threads in Your Injection Molding Project
May 30, 2018
Injection molded threads allow you the ability to fasten your plastic parts to other components securely with relative ease. Adding molded threads to your plastic part design can increase parts functionality but if not carefully designed can add unforeseen costs into the manufacturing process. Threads are created from the geometry of the mold cavity. As the molten resin enters the mold and the material cools, it solidifies into the final state forming the details of the internal or external threads. Molded threads represent undercuts. Undercuts typically require side actions or additional components to the mold in order to capture the detail of the part.
